Kazakhstan Plans to Increase Exports of Grain, Lentils and Oilseeds to Turkey
Kazakhstan intends to expand exports of agricultural products to Turkey, including grain, lentils, feed crops, and oilseeds. The initiative was announced following bilateral talks between Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Vice President of Türkiye Cevdet Yılmaz during a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.
The parties discussed the current state and future potential of bilateral trade, with a focus on increasing trade turnover and diversifying export products. In particular, the need to strengthen cooperation in veterinary and phytosanitary areas was highlighted as a key factor for expanding Kazakh agricultural exports to the Turkish market.
In 2025, trade turnover in the agro-industrial sector between Kazakhstan and Turkey increased by more than 25%, reaching $360 million. Kazakhstan’s exports are primarily composed of grains and legumes, with exports of pulses reaching 395 thousand tons.
The Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan emphasized plans to further increase exports of legumes as part of a broader strategy to diversify crop production and expand output. Strong interest from Turkish partners in these products was also noted.
Additional opportunities exist in the livestock sector. Kazakhstan is currently working on opening the Turkish market for beef exports, which could significantly expand the country’s export potential.
The two countries also discussed ongoing and future investment projects in the agro-industrial sector. In recent years, around 10 joint projects worth approximately $400 million have been implemented. Currently, five major projects with a total value of about $2 billion are under development, including greenhouse complexes and facilities for deep grain and livestock product processing.
Strengthening cooperation with Turkey is seen as an important part of Kazakhstan’s strategy to diversify export markets and develop higher value-added products.
